Review: The Way Home: Tales from a Life Without Technology

The Way Home: Tales from a Life Without Technology The Way Home: Tales from a Life Without Technology by Mark Boyle
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Have you ever imagine what life would be like without technology? No phone (landline or smart phone). No Internet. No central heating. No running water. No indoor plumbing. Mark Boyle made the choice to build and live in a small cabin without all of these things. Plus, he and his girlfriend chose to live mostly off the land on what they could grow or hunt.

I've been interested in reading about these types of experiences for many years. People have all sorts of reasons for making drastic changes in life style. Some of these reasons are not unique, but the people who choose to go off the grid certainly are. And their choice to do so are just as valid as mine not to do so.

Mark Boyle writes clearly about his experiences. At first, I found the story interesting, but I gave this book 3 stars because it seemed to go on and on and ... on. Since this is his story, he, of course, as the right to tell it his way, but I found his strong opinions, inserted into nearly every paragraph, to be a bit much, and I stopped reading at the 90% mark, as a result. Still it is an interesting story, worth the read if the subject interests you.
