My review: Friends Forever by Danielle Steel

Friends ForeverFriends Forever by Danielle Steel

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Five youngsters meet on their first day of kindergarten. Each is curious about the world around them, and each brings a special something into the world of the others. They become friends forever. This story is about their journey of friendship, love and loss.

Most Danielle Steel books grab my heart from the first few pages. This one was not like that, but, suddenly, it had me, and I just had to keep reading until the end. This is a great story, but you'll want to have your box of tissues handy. As I've come to expect from a Danielle Steel book, the characters seem so real, I forget I'm reading fiction.

My review: A View Across the Rooftops by Suzanne Kelman

A View Across the RooftopsA View Across the Rooftops by Suzanne Kelman

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Josef is a college mathematics professor living a comfortable life in Amsterdam during the Nazi occupation of WWII. He tries not to think about what is happening around him until one of his students, Michael, appears at his house, clearly in danger, because he is Jewish. Josef makes a decision to hide Michael in his attic.

Though this book is historical fiction, it captures the mood of the times, and, along with other characters in the story, lets the reader see and experience the emotion and terror, and what many did to survive. The potential for betrayal is lurking everywhere, and Josef has to navigate the turmoil in order to keep Michael safe. Josef is also a captive. His heart is closed to love until Michael shows him, through their friendship, what love is. This book, I'm sure, will become a favorite of mine.

My review: The Woods by Harlan Coben

The WoodsThe Woods by Harlan Coben

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

To say Harlan Coben is a master at his profession is a major understatement. I've read a few of his books, and I keep coming back to them because there are ew suspense or thriller writers who can weave plots as interesting, intense and dramatic. But he does all of this so well with THE Woods.

Paul Copeland, a prosecutor, just wants to understand and know what happened to his sister in the woods twenty years ago. The question is, is he prepared for the truth? And, this is a truth that takes a lot of unexpected twists and switchbacks in the telling.
