My review: Child's Play by Danielle Steel

Child's PlayChild's Play by Danielle Steel
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Kate Morgan raised her three children as a single parent following her husband's death. All three are successful in her eyes. She has the perfect life until it begins to unravel. Her conventional way of life is turned upside down by the choices her adult children are making. As usual, this is another great story and doesn't disappoint. I liked all of the characters, for one reason or another. The reason this is such a good story, in my view, is that it reflect the way people change over time, and how we all adapt to change and life in general.

My review: Why Are We Yelling?: The Art of Productive Disagreement by Buster Benson

Why Are We Yelling?: The Art of Productive Disagreement
Why Are We Yelling?: The Art of Productive Disagreement
by Buster Benson

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

In these times of almost constant conflict, political and otherwise, I decided to read "Why Are We Yelling?: The Art of Productive Disagreement" by Buster Benson. It was an excellent choice, and I learned much from this book, including why we argue and the types of arguments. I recommend it even if, like me, you think you're fairly well versed in conflict resolution. The anecdotes and examples are great too.

My review: Dark August by Katie Tallo

Dark AugustDark August by Katie Tallo

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A young woman called back to her Great Grandmother's house after the old woman dies, suddenly finds herself confronted with the past--trying to figure out how it all fits together. Why her Great Grandmother abandoned her. How her mother died. Her past relationship with an abusive boyfriend and a dog she thinks she hates. Sounds rather calm doesn't it? But this book is far from that. It's a thriller with so many twists and turns, it's actually dizzying.

At first, I didn't know quite what to make of Augusta Monet. She's a non-conformist, strong and fragile at the same time. She does almost everything differently than most people. That is what kept me reading. I wanted to know more about her. The more I read, the more I began to relate to her. In the end, I really grew to like her.

If you're expecting a standard issue thriller, you'll be disappointed. It's a thriller, with a whole lot of strange twists and turns which, in the end, I found I was comfortable with. They all came together to spin a good story.

My review: The Last Flight by Julie Clark

The Last FlightThe Last Flight by Julie Clark

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Two women, each for very different but compelling reasons, want to disappear and start over and begin totally new lives. And so they do. But it's not simple or easy, and starting over isn't what they expected.

There is much about this book I liked. It was captivating. Very relatable. It got my attention and kept it. The characters were believable and complex. It was just a great read. It also made me think about life and how there are no guarantees. Things can change in an instant. Fiction or not, reality is measured in moments, sometimes.
