My review: Dark August by Katie Tallo

Dark AugustDark August by Katie Tallo

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A young woman called back to her Great Grandmother's house after the old woman dies, suddenly finds herself confronted with the past--trying to figure out how it all fits together. Why her Great Grandmother abandoned her. How her mother died. Her past relationship with an abusive boyfriend and a dog she thinks she hates. Sounds rather calm doesn't it? But this book is far from that. It's a thriller with so many twists and turns, it's actually dizzying.

At first, I didn't know quite what to make of Augusta Monet. She's a non-conformist, strong and fragile at the same time. She does almost everything differently than most people. That is what kept me reading. I wanted to know more about her. The more I read, the more I began to relate to her. In the end, I really grew to like her.

If you're expecting a standard issue thriller, you'll be disappointed. It's a thriller, with a whole lot of strange twists and turns which, in the end, I found I was comfortable with. They all came together to spin a good story.
